Hi, I'm Hannah. I've grown up in Texas and lived in Carrollton my whole life thus far. I am currently a junior at Southern Nazarene University where I am getting a Disciplinary degree in Cultural and Communication Studies. That means I get to take graphic design, mass communication, and speech classes. I love creating and have really enjoyed how my classes have challenged me creatively. I've found that I am very interested and drawn to seeking and conveying truth through multimedia outlets.
I also love learning about other cultures and immersing myself in them. I believe that's what "kingdom-building" is all about--understanding one another and breaking down barriers so that we can better love one another. Last spring semester I had the opportunity to study abroad in Sydney, Australia. It was a great growing experience where I got to interact and build relationships within a different culture, as well as learn about their relationship with their indigenous peoples and how that relates to our indigenous peoples here.
I love building relationships and at SNU, I've enjoyed getting involved in the community through residential life as an RA. I also volunteer with the Spero Project, an organization that helps refugee families who have recently moved to the states acculturate to the U.S.
Now, as a certified art teacher with a masters degree I am...not teaching. That's right, couldn't find a job. However, one of the main reasons I am passionate about art education is for its liberating power in impoverished communities, and at my current job I am working in a low-income community primarily with art and design. So even though I am not teaching, I'm still thrilled about my position because I get to invest in a community using art.
